Races of the Week
After a strong start to the year, I had three losers last week. Obrigado finished third in the San Marcos Stakes, paying $2.40 to show. Country Diva was seventh in the American Beauty Stakes. Birdgirl ran sixth in the Cincinnati Trophy. I'm still having a profitable year, as far as my race of the week selections are concerned. A flat $2 win bet on my selections this year has yielded a net profit of $8.80 on total wagers of $10.
This week, The Daily Racing Form's races of the week are the Sunshine Millions Classic at Santa Anita and the Sunshine Millions Distaff at Gulfstream Park.
In the classic, I'll take a chance on Gotcha Gold. Gotcha Gold hasn't raced in nearly three months, and he's never raced on a synthetic surface. However, his recent Beyer figures are the best in this field, he's 2 for 4 at a mile and an eighth, and, according to the Brisnet past performances, Santa Anita is favorable to his front-running style. The Form provides free past performances.
Ginger Punch looks like a deserving favorite in the Distaff. She's coming off of a three month layoff. However, she's won three of her last four. She's a multiple grade 1 winner dropping into a restricted race, and she has a favorable post position tomorrow. The Form provides free past performances.
