Races of the Week

Last week, I finally had a winner. On the Acorn won the Jim Murray Memorial Handicap, paying $7.00 to win, $3.40 to place, and $2.60 to show. My other selection, Reporting for Duty, finished fifth in the Lone Star Derby.

Today, the Daily Racing Form's races of the week are the Preakness Stakes, which is also Equibase's race of the week, and the Shuvee Handicap.

In the Preakness, I hate to go against the Ohio-bred King of the Roxy. Street Sense looks like the most likely winner, but will probably be a prohibitive favorite. There's a lot of early speed in this race, and both Street Sense and Curlin can come from off the pace, so I'll box a Street Sense-Curlin exacta. The Form provides free past performances.

Sugar Shake looks like a heavy favorite in the Shuvee, coming off three consecutive wins, but she hasn't raced in three months. I'll try for the upset with Swap Fliparoo. Swap Fliparoo can come from off the pace, usually runs well at Belmont Park, and is trained by Allen Jerkens, who can never be counted out. The Form provides free past performances.
